As expected, Cowboys decline fifth-year option on Trey Lance's contract

The Cowboys have decided not to exercise the fifth-year option on quarterback Trey Lance's contract, which would have guaranteed him $22.4 million for 2025. This move was anticipated, given their existing financial commitments, including a significant cap hit for Dak Prescott. Lance, acquired from the 49ers last year, is set to compete with Cooper Rush for the backup role behind Prescott this season. The team has, however, picked up the fifth-year option on defensive end Micah Parsons' contract.
