Vikings get to keep seventh-round pick from Joshua Dobbs trade

Photo by Alex Slitz/Getty Images A bit of a win for the purple It’s a small victory for the Minnesota Vikings, but even the small victories are worth celebrating a little bit, aren’t they? According to Jess Root at Yahoo! Sports, the Vikings will be keeping the seventh-round pick that the Cardinals originally sent them as a part of the Joshua Dobbs trade at this year’s NFL trade deadline. The original terms of the deal were Dobbs and a conditional seventh-round pick coming from Arizona to Minnesota in exchange for a sixth-round pick from the Vikings. In order for the Cardinals to keep that seventh-round pick, Dobbs would have had to play 55% of the Vikings’ snaps during the time he was with the team. He did not meet that number, thanks in large part to playing himself out of the job eventually, so that seventh-round pick will remain with the Vikings. That means the Vikings currently hold nine picks in this year’s selection meeting. Let’s do a quick review of which picks those are. First round, #11 overall Second round, #42 overall Fourth round Fourth round (from Detroit, T.J. Hockenson trade) Fifth round (from Cleveland, Za’Darius Smith trade) Fifth round (from Kansas City, 2023 draft weekend trade) Sixth round (from Jacksonville, Ezra Cleveland trade) Sixth round (from Las Vegas via New England, Vederian Lowe trade) Seventh round The exact location of the fourth through seventh-round picks will be determined after the compensatory picks are released in a few weeks. As you can see, of the nine picks the Vikings currently have, only four are picks that originally belonged to them. The other five were acquired in trades with other teams.

You don’t have to worry about the Vikings using their franchise tag this year

Photo by Stephen Maturen/Getty Images Well, barring something completely shocking, anyway The window for NFL teams to designate members of their roster as “franchise” or “transition” players opens on Tuesday, and if you’re wondering whether or not the Minnesota Vikings will be using the tag for just the fourth time in franchise history, the answer to that question is almost certainly going to be “no.” A look at the team’s pending free agents doesn’t show anybody really worth using the tag on for this season. And unfortunately for the Vikings. . .or fortunately, depending entirely on one’s perspective. . .the two guys that might be worth using it on are immune from it. The Vikings can’t use the tag on quarterback Kirk Cousins because his contract doesn’t void until after the franchise tag deadline passes. The “legal tampering” period of free agency starts on 11 March, and Cousins’ contract doesn’t officially void until 12 March, the day before players can officially start signing with new teams. In the case of Danielle Hunter, the contract extension that he signed with the team prior to the 2023 season had a clause in it that prevents the Vikings from using the tag on him this season. So it’s not an option for him, either. After a couple of years worth of contract drama, it looks like Hunter might finally hit unrestricted free agency. As far as the rest of the potential players the Vikings could use the tag on, there isn’t anyone that would be worth anything remotely close to what the franchise tender amounts are for their respective positions, so it doesn’t appear that the Vikings will use the tag this year. The Vikings have only used the franchise player tag three times in their history. The first time was on tight end/fullback Jim Kleinsasser in 2003. They then used the tag on linebacker Chad Greenway in 2011, and the most recent time was for safety Anthony Harris in 2020. There might be some drama surrounding the franchise tag with some players and teams, but it appears that the Vikings will once again not have to deal with that sort of thing.

Former Vikings WR punches ticket to Hollywood on American Idol

Was not expecting to do this story today. Or ever. A former member of the Minnesota Vikings is finding a great deal of success in a completely different field, and he’ll now be getting an opportunity to showcase his skills on an even bigger stage. Blake Proehl, who was on the Vikings’ practice squad in 2021 and 2022, auditioned for the show American Idol and, after his performance, impressed the judges so much that he has advanced to the next round of the competition in Hollywood. You can see Proehl’s audition right here: The Vikings originally signed Proehl as an undrafted free agent in 2021 after his college career at East Carolina. He was placed on injured reserve after suffering a significant knee injury and started the 2022 season on the Physically Unable to Perform List. He was then activated that October, waived, and re-signed to the practice squad. Proehl then went through Training Camp with the Vikings in 2023 but was ultimately a part of the team’s final cuts. I’ll be perfectly honest. . .it’s been a long time since I paid any real attention to American Idol, so I’m not entirely sure how the competition is structured now. What I do know is that advancing to the Hollywood round is still a pretty big deal and will give Proehl and opportunity to get himself onto an even bigger stage if he can make it through that part to the final group. Congratulations to Blake Proehl on his successful American Idol audition, and we’ll do our best to keep up with his progress for as long as he’s in the competition.

Best free agent fits for the Vikings

Photo by Perry Knotts/Getty Images Let’s take a look at who they should be going after In the ever-evolving landscape of the NFL, free agency serves as a pivot point for teams to add to their rosters and address key needs. From dynamic playmakers to stalwart defenders, the pursuit of the perfect free agent fit is a delicate balance of skill, chemistry, and cost. Join us as we dive into the best possible free agent fits for the 2024 Minnesota Vikings. Starting with a few of our own pending free agents, Kirk Cousins, Danielle Hunter, and Dalton Risner: Kirk Cousins is obviously coming off of the season-ending Achilles injury, but just before he was forced out, Kirk was performing at an MVP level. Before the injury, Kirk Cousins has passed for 4,000 or more yards in seven of eight seasons. Keep in mind the Chicago Bears have NEVER had one quarterback do this in the history of the franchise. Sorry, Chicago. Kirk is predicted to get paid at the top of this free agency class with reports ranging from 35 to 45 million dollars a year, and if we know Kirk, all guaranteed. Danielle Hunter is also due to be paid a large sum of money after his best season in the NFL with 16.5 sacks and 23 tackles for loss. It’s easy to imagine the Vikings want him to retire a Viking, but with a few big future contracts due soon, it is unclear if the Vikings are willing to allocate the resources for a “win now” approach, or if they want to let him test the market. Dalton Risner was signed to the Vikings roster in the early parts of the 2023 season, which led to the eventual trade of Ezra Cleveland who the Vikings also would have had to pay this off-season. Dalton Risner also played his best ball in 2023 and is believed to have earned a multi-year deal to stay in Minnesota. If the Vikings can find a way to keep Risner, they will bring back the same starting five offensive lineman back from last year. Next on the list for best fit free agents are all coming from one of the other 31 NFL teams. The players on this list are Antoine Winfield Jr., Christian Wilkins, and Jaylon Johnson. Antoine Winfield Jr. has quietly developed into one of, if not the best safety in the league and the Vikings now have the chance to bring him back home. Coming out of the University of Minnesota and entering the 2020 NFL draft, the Vikings had multiple chances to select the home-grown talent, but never did. He eventually ended up getting drafted 45th overall to the Tampa Bay Bucs, where he would go on to help the Tom Brady-led team to a Super Bowl Title. It would be fascinating to see how Brian Flores would use the talents of someone like Winfield who can virtually do it all. If the Vikings were to sign Winfield, look for Cam Bynum to move back to his natural slot cornerback position. Christian Wilkins was drafted just one year before Antione Winfield Jr., when he was selected 13th overall by the Miami Dolphins in the 2019 Draft. In 2023, Wilkins finished with 69 tackles, and 9 sacks. He also stated that he would like to be paid like one of the top interior defensive linemen that he is. Depending on who the Vikings decide to or not to sign, Christian Wilkins would be another great fit in a Brian Flores defense considering Wilkins was Brian Flores’ first draft pick as an NFL head coach. The last free agent that would fit perfectly on this Vikings roster would be Bears’ cornerback, Jaylon Johnson. Johnson had his best NFL season last year when he recorded 4 interceptions after only having one within his first 3 seasons. Johnson does his best work on the outside, where he has been known to shut down opposing teams best wide receivers since his Pac-12 days in Utah. Johnson has the perfect build and play style combination that would flourish in Flores’ aggressive defensive schemes. All of these free agent fits coming to the Vikings in 2024 are dependent on one or two variables, and those variables are going to be worked out amongst the front office and coaching staff to determine the best path of success. If the front office can make the numbers work, there are great players like the ones listed above who would come in and instantly make this team better. Which free agents are you advocating for the most this year?

Former Vikings DT Sharrif Floyd Joins Commanders Coaching Staff

Photo by Tom Dahlin/Getty Images Another Zimmer era player just got hired as a coach. A little while ago, it was announced that former Vikings quarterback Teddy Bridgewater would return to his high school alma mater to become the head coach of their football team. Now another player from the Mike Zimmer era has a new coaching gig. The #Commanders are hiring #Cowboys assistant Sharrif Floyd as their assistant DL coach, as the former standout #Vikings DT continues to work his way up. Floyd was with Dan Quinn in Dallas.— Ian Rapoport (@RapSheet) February 13, 2024 Sharrif Floyd — who was drafted by the Minnesota Vikings with the 23rd overall pick in the 2013 NFL Draft, is reportedly joining the Washington Commanders coaching staff as an assistant defensive line coach under new head coach Dan Quinn. The two previously worked together last season for the Dallas Cowboys. Quinn served as the team’s defensive coordinator, while Floyd was listed as an assistant defensive line coach/defensive quality control coach. Oddly enough, the Dallas Cowboys ended up reuniting with Mike Zimmer and naming him the team’s new defensive coordinator despite the Rex Ryan rumors. So even though Sharrif Floyd spent most of his career playing for Mike Zimmer in Minnesota, it appears that he is more loyal to Dan Quinn. This isn’t really a stunning revelation, since most coaches like to bring their assistants with them whenever they change teams but I thought it was worth pointing out. "The Dallas Cowboys loved Rex Ryan..Mike Zimmer's deal isn't done yet and they've reached back out to Rex Ryan" @AdamSchefter #PMSLive pic.twitter.com/0iVXpKj7Ja— Pat McAfee (@PatMcAfeeShow) February 12, 2024 Sharrif Floyd’s playing career was cut short after a botched surgery, so it’s really nice to hear that he has found a way to continue his football career through coaching. Who knows, in 20 years from now Floyd could be a defensive coordinator in the NFL. It would make for a cool story if he found his way back to the Vikings.

Is the Vikings’ quarterback situation holding up Justin Jefferson’s extension?

Lon Horwedel-USA TODAY Sports We were hoping it would have been done by now During Super Bowl week, Minnesota Vikings star wide receiver Justin Jefferson stated that he wanted to “break the bank” with his upcoming contract extension, and seemed to imply that it wouldn’t matter who the quarterback was, be it Kirk Cousins or somebody else. While that may be true, it appears that Jefferson is in the same boat as the rest of us as far as wanting an answer. Numerous sources are reporting that Jefferson wants to know what the Vikings’ plan at the quarterback position is before signing what’s sure to be a record-setting contract extension to stay in Minnesota. While Jefferson has been an advocate for Cousins in the media and the front office has publicly stated that it’s “their intention” to have Cousins back this coming season, there have been rumors and conjecture about the level of contract that Cousins is seeking all over the place. An early number suggested that he wanted a fully-guaranteed 2-year, $90 million contract, which seems a bit excessive for a guy that’s closer to 40 than 30 coming off of a significant injury. The new league year in the NFL starts at 3:00 PM Central time exactly one month from today, 13 March, with the still-ridiculously named “legal tampering” period kicking off a couple of days before that. If the team is going to bring Cousins back, they need to have a deal worked out prior to that in order to mitigate the dead cap charges from his current deal. Working anything out after that would make almost no sense because Cousins’ dead money would count against the team’s salary cap in addition to any money he’d make on a new contract. The Vikings have been hotly rumored to be among the teams that are interested in moving up the draft board this April to acquire their quarterback of the future. Unfortunately, that could prove to be a tough tasks with the top three teams on the board all in need of quarterbacks and numerous other teams in the top half of the draft potentially looking to bring in a young signal caller as well. I’d be a bit surprised if Jefferson wasn’t already involved in some way with what the Vikings are doing at the quarterback position, given that he’s the face of the franchise and one of the best players in the entire league. But it’s understandable that he wants to see the process the team is going through come to fruition before he makes any sort of decision. I firmly believe that, when it’s all said and done, the place that Jefferson will be “breaking the bank” will be with the Vikings, and hopefully this is something that will come to its resolution sooner rather than later.

2023 Vikings Team Awards

Photo by David Berding/Getty Images Who gets the hardware for this season? Reflecting on the thrilling highs and challenging lows of the 2023 NFL season, the Minnesota Vikings had a number of key players succeed on a personal level, however, the team fell short of their intended long-term goal of hoisting the Lombardy trophy. As the dust settles on another chapter in Vikings history, it’s time to recognize the standout performances and unforgettable moments. MVP: Danielle Hunter - Danielle Hunter had one of, if not his best season in the league in 2023. Amassing a career high in sacks at 16.5 which was 2 more than his previous season high total. Hunter was also selected to represent the Minnesota Vikings in the 2023 Pro Bowl. Hunter is currently a pending free-agent, and Minnesota will have to shell out a pretty penny to get his services again next year. OPOY: TJ Hockenson - TJ Hockenson gets my offensive player of the year in 2023 for a few reasons. This guy is tough as nails. Catching balls across the middle of the field or in the endzone knowing he is going to take a big hit. Hockenson’s 2023 stats are another reason why he gets my vote for OPOY - 96 catches, 960 yards, 5 touchdowns, and 10.1 yards per catch. It was sad to see his season cut short at the hands of a known dirty player in the league, but the team believes he will be back in 2024 stronger than ever. DPOY: Jordan Hicks - Now obviously I could have gone Hunter here as well. But for the sake of recognizing multiple positions and players, especially the ones who had a massive impact on the functionality of the team, I elect to vote Hicks for DPOY for the Vikings. In 2023, Jordan Hicks was quarterbacking the leagues fiercest defense until he got injured as well. His injury was not supposed to be as long as it ended up being, but after battling infection and almost losing his leg, Jordan Hicks came back to the team late in the year and played as if nothing even happened. In 2023, Hicks had 107 total tackles, with one interception, and one sack. OROY: Jordan Addison - Yup. This one was easy. Jordan Addison had the best season as a rookie WR behind the Rams Puka Nacua. Addison was selected late in the first round, behind 3 other wide receivers, and still amassed more statistical pillars than 99% of his peers. Addison in his rookie year recorded 70 catches, 911 yards, 10 touchdowns, and averaged 13 yards a catch. Addison also provided a sense of security for the quarterbacks when Justin Jefferson went down with a hamstring injury in the middle of the season. It looks as if the Vikings found another gem of a pass catcher in the first round who will be in the league for a long time. DROY: Ivan Pace Jr. - Undrafted rookie free-agent Ivan Pace earns my defensive rookie of the year for the 2023 Minnesota Vikings! Ivan Pace is a certified stud. Another Viking that will be in the league for a long time. Pace is already one of the best young linebackers in the league after one year. His play style is awesome. He reminds me of a Pitbull off its leash at a neighborhood cookout - he gets what he wants. In 2023, Pace has 102 total tackles, 2.5 sacks, and 1 interception. Most Improved: Cam Bynum - Bynum stepped up big time for the 2023 Vikings. In 2022, he was getting exposed by offenses. Cam seemed to struggle in coverage, and filling run gaps. But 2023 Cam Bynum turned into one of the leagues most well-rounded safeties. In his bounce-back year, Bynum had 121 total tackles, 2 interceptions, 9 passes defended, and added a half sack to his 2023 resume. I will be the first to admit, I was not pleased with him being named the starting safety early in training camp over Lewis Cine, but Brian Flores has molded Cam Bynum into a game wrecker, and he has earned every bit of playing time he will get from this season and moving forward. X Factor: Josh Metellus - Yet another player who was vastly improved from last year under new Defensive Coordinator, Brian Flores. In 2023, Josh Metellus had 116 total tackles, 2.5 sacks, 4 forced fumbles, 1 fumble recovery, 1 interception, and 5 passes defended. Metellus also played just about every position on the defensive side of the ball, which is very uncommon in the NFL, not many players can even play 2 positions, let alone the whole field. Metellus, like Cam Bynum, proved me wrong this year. His development under BFLO has been remarkable and is a big reason why this 2023 Minnesota Vikings defense was so formidable. Biggest Question: Lewis Cine - At this point, we should be concerned. Cine was the 4th or 5th safety on the Vikings 2023 depth chart this whole year. The former first round pick from Georgia suffered that gruesome injury in London two years ago but was expected to make a full recovery for the 2023 season. If it is in fact injury complications that are stemmed from that injury last year then I wouldn’t be too upset, but the fact that he had been a healthy scratch for most of the year was cause for concern. With Cam Bynum and Josh Metellus playing the best ball of their career, the Vikings are lucky to not need Cine, but we could have allocated his draft pick toward another resource. Let’s see if he can get healthy or confident heading into next year, otherwise, he will surely get cut eventually and that 2022 first round pick goes down the drain. The Minnesota Vikings 2023 season was filled with its ups and downs, but the future of the team looks bright, with players on both sides of the ball contributing in different ways to help drive this team to the ultimate goal. This 2024 offseason will be the most important one yet, with big names facing free-agency, big contracts looming, and the Vikings also in need of quarterback services. With some more pieces around what the Vikings already have in place, they look to be contenders for 2024 and beyond, but this recap of 2023 shows how many important players this team currently has to build around headed into the future.

So let’s talk about the NFL’s Super Bowl overtime rules

Kyle Terada-USA TODAY Sports What would you do? Last night, the National Football League got to actually use the new rules that they have for Super Bowl overtime (and, I believe, for the playoffs as a larger entity). Apparently the Chiefs knew what the rules were and the Niners were learning about them from the scoreboard at Allegiant Stadium, which seems a little weird to me, but I digress. Basically, the new rules guarantee each team a possession in overtime, as opposed to the old way where if a team won the coin toss and scored a touchdown on their first possession the game would end. Now, even if the team that receives the overtime kickoff scores a touchdown, the other team gets an opportunity to match them. If they do tie things back up, then things go to sudden death overtime. It turned out that it wasn’t needed, as the Niners got a field goal on their overtime possession, only to see the Chiefs go down and score a touchdown to win the game by a final score of 25-22. The Chiefs also confirmed after the game that had the Niners scored a touchdown and the Chiefs had done the same, they would have gone for a winning two-point conversion rather than tie things up and give the ball back to San Francisco. There was a question of the strategy that the Niners employed, whether it was because they didn’t know the rules or whatever the case might have been. The Niners won the coin toss and elected to take the football first rather than play defense. Was that the right move? On one hand, if you take the football first and go score a touchdown on your first possession of overtime, you’ve put all the pressure on the other team to go down and match you. On the other hand, if you play defense first and can manage to get a stop, you can then go down and win with a field goal or, at the very least, know exactly what your team has to do in order to either win or prolong the game. So, I wanted to do a bit of a thought exercise with you folks to see what you think the optimal strategy is. Let’s pretend for a moment that the Minnesota Vikings are getting ready for overtime of the Super Bowl. (I know, I know. . .just work with me here, folks.) The captain goes out, makes the correct call on the coin toss, and gives the Vikings the option to decide what they want to do. What do you think is the best strategy to employ there? I’m interested to hear your answers on this, so vote in the poll below and feel free to make your opinion known in the comments section.

Assessing the Minnesota Vikings’ Quarterback Question: Can Trey Lance Be the Answer?

Photo by Rich Barnes/Getty Images It could be a question worth asking As the NFL offseason looms large, the Minnesota Vikings find themselves at a crossroads regarding their quarterback situation. With Kirk Cousins likely set to hit free agency and the backups we saw last year not proving themselves as viable long-term options, the Vikings face a critical decision that could shape the trajectory of their franchise. One option that has gained some traction among fans and analysts alike is the possibility of pursuing a trade for quarterback Trey Lance. Lance, the 23-year-old phenom out of North Dakota State University, burst onto the scene in 2021 when he was selected third overall by the San Fransisco 49ers. The 49ers made a bold move, trading 3 first-round picks to secure his services. However, just two years later, Lance found himself on the move again, this time to the Dallas Cowboys in exchange for a mere fourth-round pick. So, why should the Vikings consider making a move for Trey Lance? Let’s delve into the reasons why this could be a viable option for Minnesota. First and foremost, Trey Lance possesses immense talent and potential. Coming out of college, he was heralded for his strong arm, athleticism, and ability to make plays both through the air and on the ground. While his time in San Fransisco was limited, he showed flashes of potential and demonstrated that he has the tools to succeed at the NFL level. Furthermore, Lance fits the mold of the modern NFL quarterback. With the league increasingly valuing dual-threat quarterbacks who can extend plays with their legs and make throws on the run, Lance’s skill set aligns perfectly with the direction in which the game is evolving. His ability to threaten defenses both as a passer and a runner would add a dynamic element to the Vikings’ offense and keep opposing defenses off balance. Additionally, acquiring Trey Lance could provide the Vikings with a long-term solution at the quarterback position. At just 23 years old, Lance is still developing as a player and can potentially be a franchise for another decade if developed correctly. By trading for him now, the Vikings could secure their quarterback of the future and build around him for the long haul. Of course, pursuing Trey Lance would not come without its own risks and challenges. While he possesses immense talent, he is still relatively inexperienced at the NFL level and has yet to fully prove himself as a starting quarterback. Additionally, the cost of acquiring him could be, but should not be a concern, as the Cowboys only shelled out a mere 4th-round pick for him. Furthermore, there is no guarantee that Lance would be available or willing to be traded to the Vikings. The Cowboys may see him as a valuable asset and be reluctant to part ways with him, especially for anything less than a significant return. In conclusion, the Vikings find themselves facing a pivotal decision regarding their quarterback situation. With Kirk Cousins more than likely hitting free agency and the backups from last season not presenting themselves as viable options, the Vikings must explore all avenues in their search for a solution. While trading for Trey Lance presents its own set of risks and challenges, his talent, potential, and fit within the modern NFL make him an intriguing option for the Vikings. Only time will tell whether the front office ultimately pulls the trigger on a move for Lance or pursues other avenues in their quest for a franchise quarterback.

Marcus Dixon to become new Vikings’ defensive line coach

Photo by AAron Ontiveroz/The Denver Post The team has replaced Chris Rumph With the Minnesota Vikings not having taken the field for about a month now, it’s easy to forget that the team currently doesn’t have a defensive line coach. Well, didn’t have a defensive line coach, because it appears that they’ve remedied that situation. Sources say Broncos DL coach Marcus Dixon is expected to leave for Minnesota and become the Vikings' new DL coach.— Dan Graziano (@DanGrazianoESPN) February 9, 2024 According to Dan Graziano of ESPN, the Vikings will be hiring Marcus Dixon as their new defensive line coach, replacing Chris Rumph. Dixon was a former NFL player, having signed with the Dallas Cowboys in 2008 as an undrafted free agent. He also played with the New York Jets, the Kansas City Chiefs, and the Tennessee Titans, as well as the B.C. Lions of the Canadian Football League. He then moved into the coaching ranks at his alma mater, Hampton University, before joining the Los Angeles Rams as their defensive line coach in 2021. After being a part of the staff that helped the Rams to a victory in Super Bowl LVI. . .along with current Vikings’ head coach Kevin O’Connell. . .Dixon moved on to become the defensive line coach in Denver in 2022, where he had been for the past two seasons. Rumph, if you’ll recall, took a leave of absence from the Vikings for the better part of last season. Towards the end of the year, and in fact before the 2023 NFL season came to an end, he wound up taking the defensive line coaching job with the Clemson Tigers. Welcome to Minnesota, Marcus Dixon!

Mike Zimmer is back on an NFL sideline

Photo by Stephen Maturen/Getty Images After a couple of years away After a couple of years away, former Minnesota Vikings head coach Mike Zimmer is back on an NFL sideline. The #Cowboys are expected to hire Mike Zimmer as their defensive coordinator, per sources.Zimmer, 67, is the third-winningest head coach in #Vikings history and long respected for his defensive prowess. A big hire for Dallas, where Zimmer previously coached from 1994-2006. pic.twitter.com/jFq8KdIyNJ— Tom Pelissero (@TomPelissero) February 9, 2024 Tom Pelissero of the NFL Network is reporting that the Dallas Cowboys are expected to hire Zimmer to fill their defensive coordinator vacancy. Zimmer will take the spot that had been occupied by Dan Quinn, who was hired to be the head coach of the Washington Commanders earlier this offseason. Zimmer served as the head coach of the Vikings for eight seasons from 2014 to 2021. During that time, he took the Vikings to the playoffs three times and reached one NFC Championship Game en route to compiling a record of 74-59-1. That’s the third-most victories for a coach in Vikings’ history, trailing Bud Grant and Denny Green in that category. Zimmer got his coaching start in Dallas back in 1994. He first served as the team’s defensive backs coach before being promoted to the defensive coordinator spot in 2000. He held that role with the Cowboys until 2006, when he left to become the defensive coordinator of the Atlanta Falcons under Bobby Petrino. After famously calling Petrino out when he quit before the end of the 2007 season, Zimmer moved on to be the defensive coordinator of the Cincinnati Bengals in 2008, a position he held until the Vikings hired him after the 2013 season. Unless the Vikings and the Cowboys meet in the playoffs this coming season, Zimmer won’t get a shot at his former team until the 2025 season when the Vikings are scheduled to make a road trip to Jerryworld. Congratulations to Mike Zimmer on getting back into the NFL coaching ranks after a couple of years away. His time in Minnesota had pretty clearly run its course, but he’s still a pretty darn good football coach and now just has to concentrate on defense down in Dallas.
