The San Francisco 49ers have made a coaching change as they enter the offseason. Head coach Kyle Shanahan announced that Steve Wilks has been relieved of his duties as defensive coordinator. Wilks was hired last year to replace DeMeco Ryans, who became head coach of the Houston Texans. Despite the success of the 49ers' defense under Wilks, Shanahan felt that a different direction was needed for the team. The search for a new defensive coordinator will include internal and external candidates, with a focus on finding the best fit for the team in 2024.
