The Illinois High School Association (IHSA) has announced that girls flag football will be a sanctioned sport starting this fall. Girls flag football will have a State Series in 2024-25 and will receive the same support as boys tackle football. The Chicago Bears hosted the announcement and have been instrumental in the sport's growth. Bears President & CEO Kevin Warren and Chairman George H. McCaskey have been vocal supporters of girls flag football. The IHSA executive director, Craig Anderson, expressed his gratitude to the Bears for championing the sport. Over 100 schools have committed to participating in the inaugural IHSA Girls Flag Football State Championship in the fall of 2024, and more schools are expected to start programs in 2025. The growth of girls flag football has been unprecedented in IHSA history.
