Sean Payton hints that Broncos might draft a QB higher than expected

Denver Broncos coach Sean Payton hinted that the team might draft a quarterback higher than expected in the upcoming NFL draft. Payton emphasized that he doesn't care about consensus rankings and believes in trusting his own evaluation. He mentioned that if the Broncos like a quarterback a lot, he is unconcerned about where people think they should be drafted. While draft experts don't have Michigan's J.J. McCarthy as one of the top three quarterbacks in this year's class, Los Angeles Chargers coach Jim Harbaugh, who coached McCarthy at Michigan, suggested that McCarthy could be the first QB drafted. This indicates that a team and coach falling in love with a prospect could lead to them being drafted higher than expected. Therefore, it is possible that the Broncos could reach for a quarterback at their No. 12 pick, even if mock drafts have that specific quarterback going lower.
