Cleveland Browns' defensive end Myles Garrett was the only defender to receive any votes for NFL MVP, with Lamar Jackson ultimately winning the award. Garrett's win as Defensive Player of the Year generated discussion, as Pittsburgh Steelers' TJ Watt was upset and Micah Parsons defended Garrett's win. Garrett also outperformed Watt in various voting situations, being chosen over him for the All-Pro Team by the NFLPA and as DPOY by the Pro Football Writers of America. The MVP voting consisted of seven quarterbacks, one receiver, one running back, and no other defenders. Despite only receiving one vote, Garrett's Browns had a successful season, winning more games than Watt's Steelers and dealing with injuries and resting starters in Week 18.
