The NFL franchise-tag window opens on Tuesday, allowing teams to designate franchise or transition players. The Kansas City Chiefs have two notable candidates for the franchise tag: defensive tackle Chris Jones and cornerback L'Jarius Sneed. However, it is unlikely that Jones will be tagged due to the projected cost of $32 million. Sneed, on the other hand, could be tagged for around $18.8 million, giving the Chiefs time to work on a long-term extension. If no agreement is reached by March 13, the tag number will be reflected on the 2024 cap. The Chiefs have expressed interest in keeping both players, but it may be challenging. In 2022, the Chiefs used the franchise tag on offensive lineman Orlando Brown Jr., but he ultimately joined the Cincinnati Bengals in 2023.
