Tom Donatell has been named the new defensive backs coach for the Washington Commanders. Donatell believes in an interactive teaching style, emphasizing the importance of players understanding the "why" behind plays. He played multiple positions in college, which helped him develop a deeper understanding of the game. Donatell played a role in developing Derwin James and Asante Samuel Jr. during his time with the Los Angeles Chargers. He has learned a lot from his father, Ed Donatell, who has been coaching in the NFL for 32 years. Donatell is excited to work with a young secondary in Washington and help them improve.
