Raheem Morris acknowledges the historical significance of being a Black head coach in the NFL. While Fritz Pollard was the first-ever Black head coach in 1921, the number of Black head coaches in the league has remained low. In 2023, there were only four Black head coaches, but in 2024, that number will double to nine, including Morris. The Rooney Rule, implemented in 2003, aims to promote diversity by requiring teams to interview minority candidates for head coach positions. Morris, who previously worked for the Falcons, became the first full-time Black head coach in the team's history. He understands the importance of his role and the impact it has on future generations, particularly his own children.
