Doug Middleton, a former cornerback for Appalachian State, was not chosen in the 2016 NFL Draft. However, he was approached by the Washington, Jacksonville, and Tampa Bay teams as a free agent. Middleton's agent informed him that the New York Jets, his favorite team, had shown interest and Middleton eagerly accepted the opportunity to play for them. He was able to meet his idol, Darrelle Revis, and learn from him and other veterans on the team. Middleton started on the practice squad but eventually earned a promotion to the active roster. He had memorable moments on the field, including a touchdown off a kickoff. Middleton faced injuries in subsequent seasons and was placed on the Injured Reserve. He now works as a Special Assistant to the Athletic Department at App State, teaching yoga and mental health programming to student-athletes. Middleton and his wife have also founded Dream Yoga and Wellness, a community-oriented wellness center, and the Dream the Impossible Foundation, a nonprofit focusing on mental health awareness.
