The Detroit Lions' tight end position has been a strong asset in their offense under offensive coordinator Ben Johnson. Rookie Sam LaPorta had an impressive season, setting multiple rookie and franchise records. The tight ends also contributed significantly to the team's success in the running game. However, outside of LaPorta, the production in the passing game from the other tight ends was limited. Injuries affected the availability of Brock Wright and James Mitchell. LaPorta was the standout performer, finishing first in touchdown catches among all tight ends. The Lions have some free agent decisions to make, with Wright and Anthony Firkser among those whose contracts are ending. The team may consider adding depth through the draft or undrafted free agents, but with LaPorta already excelling, they may not invest heavily in the position.
