Packers positions of need: 15 LBs in PFF's top 150 free agents list

The Green Bay Packers have identified the linebacker position as a need for the upcoming offseason. The team currently has Quay Walker, Isaiah McDuffie, DeVondre Campbell, and Christian Young on the roster. Under new defensive coordinator Jeff Hafley, the Packers are transitioning to a 4-3 defense, which impacts how the linebacker position is constructed. The middle linebacker role could be filled by McDuffie, who played under Hafley in college, but the Packers may also look to upgrade. Walker is a good fit for the weak-side linebacker role, while Campbell's future with the team is uncertain due to injuries and performance. The Packers need to create cap space and may make veteran cuts to address their needs. In addition to defense, linebackers also play key roles on special teams. The Packers are over the projected salary cap but have means to create the necessary space. The team has invested in linebackers in recent years but lacked impact plays in 2023. The addition of Hafley and linebackers coach Anthony Campanile should improve the unit's performance. If the Packers choose to address the linebacker position in free agency, PFF's top available options include Frankie Luvu, Lavonte David, Patrick Queen, and Bobby Wagner, among others.
