Green Bay Packers State of the Roster: Linebacker

The Green Bay Packers are facing potential changes at the linebacker position with the transition to a new defensive scheme. There is uncertainty surrounding DeVondre Campbell, who may be a cap casualty due to his contract. If Campbell is not retained, Quay Walker would likely become the starting middle linebacker. However, the team still has holes to fill at the position, with only Isaiah McDuffie and Christian Young under contract for 2024. Eric Wilson and Kristian Welch are both expected to hit free agency. Based on similar defenses, the Packers may need to add up to four linebackers this offseason. Linebacker is a major need for the team, along with the safety position. The new defensive scheme calls for smaller, faster outside linebackers who can assist in coverage and chase down runs, while the middle linebacker focuses on inside run fitting. This change in personnel will allow the Packers to play more base snaps against three-receiver sets.
