49ers expecting former Panthers coach Steve Wilks to return in 2024

During a season-ending press conference, San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan expressed his expectation that former Carolina Panthers coach Steve Wilks would return for the 2024 season. Wilks, who served as the 49ers' defensive coordinator, helped the team rank eighth in total defense. Despite a strong performance, the 49ers fell short in Super Bowl LVIII to the Kansas City Chiefs. Shanahan praised Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes, who led his team to victory and earned his third Super Bowl MVP award in five years.
