What hiring Taylor Embree as running backs coach means for the Patriots

The New England Patriots have hired Taylor Embree as their new running backs coach. Embree, who previously worked with the New York Jets, has experience coaching both at the college and professional level. Despite his lack of experience working with running backs, Embree helped develop Breece Hall and Michael Carter into productive NFL players during his time with the Jets. His coaching history suggests that the Patriots may be shifting towards an outside zone-based offense under new offensive coordinator Alex Van Pelt. Embree has a previous connection with quarterbacks coach T.C. McCartney, as they both worked together on the San Francisco 49ers staff. With Embree's hiring, the Patriots coaching staff has filled another vacancy, but they still have openings for wide receivers coach and tight ends coach.
