The Pittsburgh Steelers ended the 2023 season with three quarterbacks on their roster: Kenny Pickett, Mason Rudolph, and Mitch Trubisky (who was released). Pickett had his second season as the starting quarterback, showing both good and bad performances. He completed 62.0% of his passes for 2,070 yards with 6 touchdowns and 4 interceptions in 12 games. Pickett led three fourth-quarter comebacks and had three game-winning drives. However, his touchdown percentage was the lowest among qualified passers. Pickett suffered an ankle injury late in the season and missed the last five games. Rudolph played well in his absence, leading the team to a 3-0 record in his three starts. The Steelers averaged 18.4 points with Pickett, 15.5 points with Trubisky, and 24.5 points with Rudolph. Looking ahead to 2024, Pickett will enter the offseason as the team's No. 1 quarterback but will face competition for the starting job. Rudolph is scheduled to become a free agent but the Steelers have expressed interest in re-signing him. The team also hired a new offensive coordinator, Arthur Smith, and will install a new offense. The goal is to create a more complete passing game and help all offensive weapons thrive.
