The Chargers are expected to hire Michigan defensive line coach Mike Elston, according to NFL insider Tom Pelissero. Elston previously coached at Notre Dame for 12 seasons before joining the Wolverines in 2022. He played a crucial role in Michigan's successful defense over the past two seasons. During his time in Ann Arbor, Elston helped develop several defensive linemen who have been or will be drafted into the NFL. He now joins former head coach Jim Harbaugh in Los Angeles. The Chargers' defensive line may undergo significant changes in the 2024 season, with players like Joey Bosa and Khalil Mack potentially leaving, and starting defensive tackles Austin Johnson and Nick Williams becoming free agents. Elston may have to work with a young and inexperienced group in his first year with the team.
