ESPN released their best fits for the top 50 NFL free agents, and the Dallas Cowboys were mentioned in multiple scenarios. The Dallas Morning News reported that Tyron Smith wants to play for the Cowboys in 2024, but ESPN believes his best fit is with the Kansas City Chiefs. Despite Smith's availability concerns, he would upgrade the Chiefs' left tackle position and protect Patrick Mahomes. As for running back Josh Jacobs, ESPN suggests he would be a good fit for the Cowboys if Tony Pollard doesn't return. Jacobs, who led the NFL in rushing in 2022, could also contribute as a receiving option for Dak Prescott. Lastly, ESPN proposes that Washington Commanders, led by former Cowboys defensive coordinator Dan Quinn, should target Tony Pollard. Pollard's production improved in the second half of the season, and Washington could create a backfield rotation with him and Brian Robinson Jr.
