Cowboys hire a wave of defensive coaches for Mike Zimmer’s staff

The Dallas Cowboys are finalizing their defensive coaching staff under new defensive coordinator Mike Zimmer. They have hired Jeff Zgonina as the new defensive line coach, bringing in his experience from coaching the Washington Commanders' defensive front. Zgonina has coached notable defensive linemen like Chase Young, Montez Sweat, Jonathan Allen, and Daron Payne. The Cowboys have also hired Greg Ellis, their former first-round pick, as the assistant defensive line coach. Additionally, they have brought in Paul Guenther as the defenses run game coordinator. Guenther has a history with Zimmer, having worked together in Cincinnati and most recently as a senior defensive assistant with the Minnesota Vikings. These hires aim to address the Cowboys' struggles in stopping the run.
