The Cowboys have been implementing an analytics overhaul under head coach Mike McCarthy. Despite a disappointing playoff exit, McCarthy was retained for the 2024 season. The team made changes to their analytics department in the offseason, fulfilling one of McCarthy's goals. McCarthy had previously worked with a similar setup in Green Bay, where he implemented analytics into the team's culture. The Cowboys already had an analytics department in place, but McCarthy aimed to have coaching staff members familiar with analytics, while the front office handled bigger picture tasks. This approach appealed to owner Jerry Jones, who has an interest in data and previously used it to gain an edge in the 90s. The next installment will explore the struggles faced in achieving the goal of a more analytics-driven approach.
