Clemson University is at the center of a critical debate in college football regarding roster building strategies. While many top programs aggressively utilize the transfer portal to acquire veteran talent, Clemson remains committed to developing players internally, exemplified by their handling of quarterback Christopher Vizzina. ESPN analyst Greg McElroy highlighted Clemson as a test case for whether traditional development can compete with the modern approach of leveraging the transfer portal.

Head coach Dabo Swinney has consistently advocated for recruiting and training players within Clemson's system. Vizzina, projected as Clemson's starting quarterback in the upcoming season, represents this philosophy.
