Auburns hires Alex Golesh: USF coach tapped to lead Tigers

Auburn has announced the hiring of USF coach Alex Golesh as its new head football coach, aiming to revitalize the program after five consecutive losing seasons. The Tigers have struggled since Gus Malzahn's final season in 2020, posting a 28-35 record and achieving only two bowl appearances, both resulting in losses. Auburn's 2025 season concluded with a 1-7 conference record, tying them for 13th place in the SEC.

Golesh led USF to a 9-3 record this season, marking the program's best performance in nearly a decade, with notable victories over Boise State and Florida. Despite not securing the American Athletic Conference title, his success made him a sought-after candidate in the coaching market. Golesh, who previously served as the offensive coordinator at Tennessee and UCF, is credited with transforming USF's offense into one of the top-scoring units in the nation.
