Virginia Tech's star defensive lineman Kemari Copeland has decided to remain with the Hokies for the 2026 season amid allegations of tampering by other college football programs. Copeland, a senior, shared his experiences with tampering in a social media video, noting that after the firing of his coach in the 2025 season, one particular school persistently contacted him. Copeland recounted an incident during a game against Louisville where representatives from the tampering school were present to scout him. He later received a text message offering a financial incentive to enter the transfer portal. Copeland did not name the school involved, citing a desire to avoid causing trouble, but stressed the distractions such actions cause for players. In the 2025 season, Copeland started all 12 games for Virginia Tech, recording 48 tackles, 7.5 tackles for loss, and a team-high 4.5 sacks. He aims to excel under new head coach James Franklin in the upcoming season.
