David Denham is a candidate to become Michigan's defensive line coach

Michigan Wolverines head coach Kyle Whittingham is in search of a new defensive line coach following Lou Esposito's departure to the Baltimore Ravens. David Denham, currently an assistant defensive line coach for the Wolverines, is a leading candidate for the position. Denham, who joined Michigan's coaching staff in 2025 and was retained for the 2026 season, previously worked as Western Michigan's defensive line coach and recruiting coordinator. His familiarity with the team and coaching style under Esposito could facilitate a smooth transition. During his tenure at Western Michigan, Denham developed five defensive linemen who earned first or second-team all-conference honors. His coaching career includes roles at the University of Indianapolis, Wabash College, and Saint Joseph’s College. He began his coaching journey at Rose-Hulman after playing linebacker at Tiffin University and Ball State.
