Former Atlanta Falcons Assistant Coach Lands In College Football

LUBBOCK – Jacquies Smith, a former outside linebackers coach for the Atlanta Falcons, is reportedly set to join Texas Tech as the new outside linebackers coach. The information was shared by ESPN college football insider Pete Thamel. Smith's coaching experience includes a stint with the Texas Longhorns in 2023 as an assistant edge coach and three years with Louisiana as a defensive quality control coach from 2019 to 2022.

Smith played college football at Missouri from 2008 to 2011 and had a five-season NFL career with several teams, including the Miami Dolphins and Tampa Bay Buccaneers. During his time with the Falcons, the defense set a franchise record for sacks in a season, and Smith contributed to the development of standout players like James Pearce Jr.

In response to Smith's departure, the Falcons have promoted John Timu to the position of outside linebackers coach. Timu, who has been with the Falcons for the past two seasons, was instrumental
