Indiana football QB Tyler Cherry back on scholarship after missing 2025

Indiana University's football team has reinstated quarterback Tyler Cherry to its official roster, reinstating his scholarship after he spent the 2025 season as a student coach. Cherry, who previously redshirted, was sidelined last season due to a knee injury sustained before the 2024 College Football Playoff game against Notre Dame. He returns as a redshirt freshman wearing his original No. 15 jersey.

Cherry originally committed to Duke but switched to Indiana following coaching changes at both programs. He was a four-star recruit and ranked as the No. 6 in-state prospect in the 2024 recruiting class according to 247 Sports composite rankings. During his high school career at Center Grove, Cherry set records with 5,461 passing yards and 56 touchdowns, and he led the team to the Class 6A state title game.
