LSU athletic director Scott Woodward resigns, 4 days after the firing of football coach Brian Kelly

LSU Athletic Director Scott Woodward resigned on Thursday night, following the recent firing of football coach Brian Kelly. This decision came shortly after Republican Gov. Jeff Landry announced that Woodward would not be responsible for hiring Kelly's successor. Woodward, a native of Baton Rouge and an LSU alumnus, assumed the role of athletic director in April 2019. During his tenure, LSU secured national championships in football, baseball, women's basketball, and gymnastics. Verge Ausberry, the executive deputy athletic director, will step in as the interim athletic director and oversee the search for a new football coach.
