Marcus Freeman to NFL? Teams not giving up on luring Notre Dame coach to pros

Marcus Freeman, the head coach of Notre Dame, has confirmed his commitment to remain with the Fighting Irish through 2026, despite ongoing interest from NFL teams. Freeman announced his decision to "run it back" with Notre Dame on December 29, following a contract adjustment with the university. NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport reported that despite Freeman's statement, NFL teams continue to consider him a potential candidate for head coaching positions.

Freeman, 40, has been linked to the New York Giants' head coaching position after the firing of Brian Daboll during the 2025 season. As of now, there are eight NFL head coach vacancies, including those with the Raiders, Titans, Dolphins, and Ravens. Freeman's coaching tenure at Notre Dame includes a 43-12 record, four bowl wins, and an appearance in the College Football Playoff title game, making him a highly regarded figure in college football.
