Michigan Wolverines to hire Vanderbilt's Larry Black as DT coach

The Michigan Wolverines are set to hire Larry Black as their new defensive tackles coach, as reported by ESPN's Pete Thamel. Black, who has spent the last four seasons as the defensive line coach at Vanderbilt, was recently promoted to defensive run game coordinator. He has not previously coached in the Big Ten but played as a defensive tackle for the Indiana Hoosiers from 2009 to 2012.

Black's coaching career began at Carthage College in 2015, followed by stints as a graduate assistant at Toledo and Notre Dame. He returned to Toledo as the defensive line coach before joining Vanderbilt in 2022. At Michigan, Black will join the staff under head coach Kyle Whittingham and defensive coordinator Jay Hill, collaborating with edge coach Lewis Powell.

This move comes after Michigan's successful season, where the team posted a 7-2 record, limiting opponents to 111.9 rushing yards per game and 3.4 yards per carry.
