Oklahoma Sooners to hire LaMar Morgan as defensive backs coach

The Oklahoma Sooners, under head coach Brent Venables, are reportedly set to hire LaMar Morgan as their new defensive backs coach. Morgan has been with the Michigan Wolverines for the past two seasons, where he served as the defensive pass game coordinator and secondary coach. His coaching career, which began in 2012, includes experience with the Vanderbilt Commodores, West Carolina, Louisiana Monroe, Houston, and his alma mater, Louisiana-Lafayette. At Michigan, Morgan notably contributed to the development of cornerback Will Johnson, who earned second-team All-American and All-Big Ten honors in 2024, and cornerback Zeke Berry, who made the All-Big Ten Third Team in 2025. Oklahoma will face Michigan on September 12 in Ann Arbor, following last year's victory over the Wolverines in Norman.
