SEC distributes record $1.03 billion to schools in 2024-25 fiscal year

The Southeastern Conference (SEC) announced it has become the first college sports conference to distribute over $1 billion in revenue to its member schools. During the most recent fiscal year, the SEC distributed $1.03 billion to its 16 schools, marking a significant increase from the $808.4 million distributed in the 2023-24 fiscal year. This increase resulted in an average payout of $72.4 million per school, up from $53.8 million the previous year.

The revenue boost is attributed to the SEC's new ESPN contract, the addition of Oklahoma and Texas to the conference, and the expansion of the College Football Playoff to 12 teams. SEC Commissioner Greg Sankey emphasized the conference's ability to provide financial benefits to student-athletes while maintaining a transformative college experience.

The Big Ten is also projected to surpass the $1 billion revenue mark, having reported $928 million for the 2023-24 fiscal year. The majority of conference revenue is derived from television contracts
