Some college coaches quietly look for path to NFL

Notre Dame's Marcus Freeman remains loosely linked to the NFL, though he has expressed a commitment to staying at Notre Dame. Curt Cignetti, who has transformed the Indiana Hoosiers in two seasons, is noted as a potential NFL candidate, despite a $15 million buyout and his lack of pro-level experience. As NFL teams evaluate options, the possibility of hiring a college head coach remains open for the eight current vacancies.
