Steelers' Art Rooney II not 'shocked' by Mike Tomlin's decision, expects move to affect Aaron Rodgers' plans

Mike Tomlin has stepped down as head coach of the Pittsburgh Steelers after 19 seasons. Steelers president Art Rooney II described the decision as an "emotional day" but not entirely unexpected, as Tomlin himself indicated he was nearing the end of his coaching career. Tomlin's departure comes shortly after the Steelers' 30-6 playoff loss to the Houston Texans, marking Pittsburgh's seventh consecutive postseason defeat under his leadership. During his tenure, Tomlin achieved a 193-114-2 regular season record and an 8-12 postseason mark, including a Super Bowl victory in 2009.

Tomlin has stated he does not plan to coach elsewhere in the near future, choosing instead to spend time with his family. This decision leaves the Steelers, who have employed only three head coaches since 1969, in search of a new leader. Rooney emphasized the team will consider a wide range of candidates and will not limit their search to internal staff.
