Texas football makes Will Muschamp one of nation's top paid assistants. See his new salary

Texas Longhorns football head coach Steve Sarkisian has appointed Will Muschamp as the new defensive coordinator, referring to him as the "head coach of the defense." Muschamp will receive an average annual salary of $2.8 million over a three-year contract, pending approval from the University of Texas Board of Regents. This salary places Muschamp among the highest-paid coordinators in college football, surpassing the earnings of many FBS head coaches.

Muschamp returns to Texas after serving as a coach at Georgia and previously being the head coach at Florida and South Carolina. His hiring comes after the firing of Pete Kwiatkowski, who was dismissed following Texas' 28th national ranking in scoring defense last season.
