Chargers cut Brenden Rice, 49ers cut Terique Owens; sons of Hall of Fame wideouts waived

Brenden Rice and Terique Owens, sons of Pro Football Hall of Fame receivers Jerry Rice and Terrell Owens, were waived by the Los Angeles Chargers and San Francisco 49ers, respectively. This development follows their participation in a preseason game between the two teams. Brenden Rice, drafted in the seventh round by the Chargers last year, appeared in three games during his rookie season, mostly on special teams, without recording a reception. This preseason, he caught three passes for 32 yards.

Terique Owens made a notable impact in the preseason finale by scoring his first NFL touchdown. He previously played six college seasons across multiple institutions and was a member of the 49ers' practice squad last season. Both players aim to secure a place in the NFL, following in the footsteps of their legendary fathers.
