The Michigan Wolverines are set to enhance their offensive strategy for the 2026 season under new leadership, with head coach Kyle Whittingham and offensive coordinator Jason Beck, both previously from Utah. The team faces a significant challenge in the tight end position following the departure of Marlin Klein to the NFL Draft. The current roster includes Zack Marshall, Hogan Hansen, Deakon Tonielli, and Jalen Hoffman, who collectively bring limited experience with only 345 receiving yards returning.

Michigan has acquired J.J. Buchanan from the transfer portal, a hybrid wide receiver/tight end from Utah. Although officially listed as a wide receiver due to his 208-pound frame, Buchanan is expected to be utilized in a role similar to a large slot receiver, exploiting mismatches against smaller defenders, particularly near the goal line.

Zack Marshall is the most proven receiver among the tight ends, having recorded 199 yards and one touchdown last season, with significant contributions in key games against Washington and Purdue. Hogan Hansen, previously
